Extras at CKC!

I am excited to announce that on September 10th all classes will be practicing for the competition on September 17th at CKC!

You will learn how to perform for the judges! Brown belts will learn how to referee!

Come ready to have fun, gain confidence and spend some time learning great karate at the dojo!

August 30th Fall Classes Begin!

Welcome back CKC students! The new schedule begins on Monday, August 30th when CKC returns from break.

Here are some of the upcoming events/closures that you need to know about:

September 6th - Labor Day - no classes

September 17th - CKC Tournament at CKC (no regular classes this day)

October 6th - Belt test for all classes

October 15th - Black Belt pre-test

Also, the Fall special for NEW students has been extended until September 30th! $199.00 includes: one full month of training, a new uniform, a new t-shirt, a new white belt, and the beginner student manual! Enrollment is limited, so if you know anyone that wants to join our dojo, please pass this info along.

Sushi night at TAKO

TAKO Japanese Restaurant served some amazing sushi, yakisoba, udon, donburi and much more to CKC students who attended sushi night tonight!

Thanks to everyone who enjoy dinner with Mrs. Cupples and her family. It was nice to share a meal and good company with our "family."

Father's Day hike...and a barbeque!




We had beautiful weather today for the Father's Day hike. We started at 9:40 am and finished our hike 2 hours later! As you can see from the pictures, the scrub oak is deep lush green, the cactus flowers are in full bloom and we had a great time!

Mr. Cupples and I treated everyone to a barbeque at our house after the hike! Happy Father's Day to all the CKC dads out there!

Judo seminar a HUGE hit!

Thanks to Sensei Diane, Sensei Reggie and Sempai Kevin for their fantastic Judo seminar at Community Karate Clubs tonight!

We had 25 people attend the seminar this evening and everyone had a great time! Students ranged from high white belt to nidan, ages 5 - 43! What an awesome event!

Mother's Day Hike at Fox Run - What a perfect day!




Thanks to everyone who supported CKC's fitness philosophy and got outside and enjoyed a great hike at Fox Run on Mother's Day. We had 33 total people hike the beautiful woodsy trails and the kids had lots of fun doing "I spy scavenger hunt!"

As promised, CKC will sponsor one hike each month and everyone is welcome to attend. Stay tuned for next month's hike - to be announced soon!

Hike at Fox Run!

Hi everyone!

If you are hiking with us tomorrow we will be meeting at the entrance on Stella Drive at Fox Run Regional Park at 2:00
pm.

Here are the directions:

Head north on 1-25 to Northgate (exit 156A, Gleneagle). Head east on Northgate Road for 3.5 miles to Rollercoaster Road. Turn north on Rollercoaster Road and follow for 1.5 miles to Stella Drive. Turn left on Stella Drive. Turn right into the park.

We will meet at 2pm and hike for about an hour. Please bring water, snacks, sunscreen, hat, etc. Be prepared :)

Sparring tonight at FKC!

Join Mrs. and Mr. Cupples tonight at Kyoshi Jay Haynes' dojo, 3617 Betty Drive, 80917. Come and learn how to fight if you don't know how, or come and sharpen your skills!

There is no charge for this special event. I will be holding normal classes at 5:30pm and 6:15pm this evening. After normal classes are done, we will tear down the mats, set up the chairs and then drive to Kyoshi's school.

Everyone is invited! Let's have fun tonight! After sparring we will be heading over to Rizuto's for ice cream. Remember, cones are only $1.00!!!

Mothers' Day Hike at Fox Run

Hi everyone! In accordance with promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle at Community Karate Clubs, Mrs. Cupples has organized a fun, family hike on Mothers' Day, May 9th at 2pm.

Fox Run is located at 2110 Stella Drive, Black Forest, CO. I will have a flyer up soon!

Tournament Excitement!

So far CKC has 24 students signed up for the March 27 tournament at Kyoshi's dojo. Mrs. Cupples is hoping for another 16 students to compete in this fun and very fair tournament.

Congratulations Nathan!

It is with great honor to announce that Nathan has been chosen to be a candidate to test for the rank of Junior Shodan! Nathan will be training very hard over the next 5 weeks at Kyoshi's dojo along with 12 other candidates belonging to the Kazoku Karate Budokai.

The Shodan test will be held on March 20th. All brown belts are invited to watch the test on that date. All CKC students are invited to the graduation ceremony later that evening. I will provide more details as we approach that date.

I am very proud of all 6 Community Karate Club students who participated in the pre-test today. Rob, Tabitha, Marissa, Cassi, Belinda and Nathan all represented CKC with courtesy and great determination. Thanks to everyone for attending this special event.

A special thank you to Kyoshi Jay Haynes for his unwavering support of CKC; it is truly an honor to be part of such a respected martial arts organization.

Remember when...

Back in February 2007, Nathan joined Community Karate Clubs when Mrs. Cupples held classes at Fremont Elementary School. This weekend Nathan will be attending the Black Belt Pretest to see if he will be eligible to test for the rank of Junior Shodan on March 20th. I am so proud of how far Nathan has come and will be there with him every step of the way!

Mrs. Cupples purchased new mats for the dojo! Community Karate Clubs now boasts nearly 800 square feet of mat space! That is a 50% increase in space!

Congratulations to CKC students who passed their belt tests!



Trinity, Jacob and Michael all graduated to green belt, the first novice belt in our ranking system! Congrats to everyone else who moved up from beginner to novice belt, and a special congrats to Amaya for earning her 1st degree brown belt!

I am so very proud of all 42 students who tested for a new rank last week. You all showed amazing discipline and talent, not to mention the power that came through!

Keep up the great work everyone! Next belt test is on February 10th; keep coming to class, working hard and earning your stripes! Remember that Mrs. Cupples is available on Wednesdays from 6:15-6:45pm at no extra charge for students who need or want extra help.

12 Techniques of Christmas - How FUN!


Thanks to everyone who attended Friday's FUN! class where we did the "12 Techniques of Christmas!" I can't believe it took us so long to do ONLY 12 Techniques!

Happy Holidays to everyone! See you all in class on December 28th. Don't forget the belt test is on December 30th. Remember, no 3pm or 3:45pm classes next week. Everyone in those classes will attend the 4:30pm class.

Holiday Schedule

Just a reminder that there are NO CLASSES during the week of 12/21/09 - 12/25/09 in observance of the holidays. A warm and happy, joyful holiday to all CKC families and friends!

This Friday, December 18th at 6:30pm, Mrs. Cupples will treat all CKC students to a free Friday FUN class! We will be doing the 12 techniques of Christmas! Singing AND Karate - Who could ask for more??

From December 28th, 2009 - January 4th, 2010 there will be no 3:00pm or 3:45pm classes. If you attend one of these classes, please come to the 4:30 pm class.

On December 30th CKC students will be belt testing. Again, if you normally come to the 3:00pm class or the 3:45pm class, please join the 4:30 pm class for a combined class belt test - It is going to be AWESOME!

Lastly, CKC is closed on January 1st, 2010 in honor of New Year's Day.

Stick Fighting Champions!

Friday's FUN Class was SUPER FUN! We did stick fighting for the first half of the class, changing partners every few minutes and THEN...KING/QUEEN of the hill!

I had so much fun having our trophies custom made at A-1 Trophy right here in Colorado Springs. They came out beautiful!

Scott won the adult division and Sam won the Kids Division this past Friday!

Next Stick Fighting FUN Class will be December 18th starting at 6:30 pm - Come and join us, maybe YOU can take home the trophy next time!

CKC Coats for COOKIES - What a SUCCESS!


CKC Students and families donated a total of 76 winter coats during our "Coats for Cookies" drive!

Mrs. Cupples promised three dozen homemade cookies of your choice to any family who donated 15 coats or more and FOUR families met the challenge! WOW!

You guys ROCK - Enjoy the cookies!





Thank you to EVERYONE who donated warm, gently used, winter coats. I will be bringing all 76 cozy coats to the Springs Rescue Mission tomorrow morning. It feels so good to "Make OUR Community Stronger!" I am very proud of all CKC students and families for participating in this community service event!

Next month we will be collecting old cell phones and donating them to TESSA. TESSA provides immediate safety for women and children in crisis. Start peeking through your junk drawers and cabinets for old phones that you no longer use! During the month of December Mrs. Cupples will collect cell phone donations.

Wonderful families joining together with the commmon goal of creating a close community is what Community Karate Clubs strives for every day. At the tournament I saw a fantastic display of courtesy, determination and good sportsmanship. I am so very proud of everyone who competed, the family and friends that came to watch and everyone who helped out. Thanks to everyone.
